Over a century ago, in 1871, Antonio Garofoli, starts to produce and sell wines from a small tavern located along the pilgrimage route to Loreto.

THE ESTABLISHMENT

Gioacchino, enterprising son of Antonio, in 1901 gives a legal status to his business by establishing the company “Gioacchino Garofoli” with registered office in Loreto. During these years Gioacchino creates the first underground cellar for the production and preservation of wines.

THE GROWTH

Gioacchino’s skills along with the help of his wife Ida and his nine children, lead the company to a continuous growth in terms of production and distribution. Garofoli wines are not only sold in the cellar, but also in taverns and restaurants in the surrounding area.

THE CHANGE

Franco and Dante, two of Gioacchino’s nine children, continue their father’s activity. In the 50s, Franco and Dante’s intuition is to offer their customers a good table wine no longer sold in bulk and only in taverns but bottled by the producer and also sold by the bottle in grocery stores. No longer an anonymous wine, but a product clearly identified by the producer’s branding. The company achieves remarkable success and grows in size and market penetration. Castelfidardo’s cellars start expanding and the facilities are upgraded, introducing one of the first automatic bottling lines in Italy.

THE 60s.

THE ECONOMIC BOOM

The economic boom brought along widespread prosperity. During these years people started to desire to experience wine in a different way, and Garofoli, always a step ahead, launches wines appropriate for these times, new and cheeky wines such as the Rosé and the Charmat Method Sparkling Wine.

NEW VISIONS

Carlo and Gianfranco, Franco’s sons, join their father and uncle’s company in 1973, in a historical period that brought important cultural changes in the world of wine. In fact, the first DOC wines were established in Italy just few years before. This aspect favours the development of quality wine and the desire to experiment all the oenological techniques with the local grape varieties. It is precisely during these years that the Company proposes a new Metodo Classico sparkling wine, the first in the Marche region. From a commercial point of view, the sales network reaches its maximum expansion in Italy and starts to be present in new foreign markets.

A NEW WINE CULTURE

During the golden years of wine Garofoli is one of the protagonists. It is during these years that we see the birth of the first wine guides and the development of the national sommellerie to a level never seen before. The wines produced by Carlo and Gianfranco are among the most innovative and rewarded, making Garofoli a leader and forerunner of the entire production in the region.
